John was raised in a good Open Brethren church and home, and grew up on the family farm in Co Down.
Became a committed follower of Jesus at age 14, but is more and more conscious with age of how much there is still to learn about true discipleship, and the inestimable value of the amazing grace of God towards a sinner like him.
Educated at a Quaker school in Lisburn and the University of Ulster.
Married to Maisie, with daughters Sarah and Emma.
Resident in Northern Ireland. On full–time staff with Youth for Christ in one role or another for 39 years (2020).
Member of a Presbyterian church. No longer active in front–line face–to–face youth work, but greatly enjoys helping other folks in their strategic outreach through the Foundation.
Likes anything with an engine, working outside, cooking, reading, God’s creation, most sports, long–distance cycling, and working with people who are enthusiastic and passionate about their work.
Following studying Business at Ulster University, involved in running a retail/distribution business for 15 years.
Over the last 14 years involved in several projects, including being part of the leadership team for YFC Eastern Europe. Co–founder of a project in Moldova which enables teenage girls to further their education and attain skills to help them get employment.
Currently part of the Management Team that organise New Horizon, which is a week–long Christian conference in N Ireland in August that over 4000 people attend.
Lives in N Ireland but enjoys travelling especially to YFC projects. Enjoys sailing & being near water.
Rachel has an Honours degree in Modern History and Film Studies from Queens University Belfast and previously worked for the Northern Ireland Civil Service. She takes care of all the book–keeping and the general office admin, and keeps John and Paul on track.
