John was raised in a good Open Brethren church and home, and grew up on the family farm in Co Down.
Became a committed follower of Jesus at age 14, but is more and more conscious with age of how much there is still to learn about true discipleship, and the inestimable value of the amazing grace of God towards a sinner like him.

Educated at a Quaker school in Lisburn and the University of Ulster.

Married to Maisie, with daughters Sarah and Emma.

Resident in Northern Ireland. On full–time staff with Youth for Christ in one role or another for 39 years (2020).

Member of a Presbyterian church. No longer active in front–line face–to–face youth work, but greatly enjoys helping other folks in their strategic outreach through the Foundation.

Likes anything with an engine, working outside, cooking, reading, God’s creation, most sports, long–distance cycling, and working with people who are enthusiastic and passionate about their work.
